About the event

What Quilts Carry: Artists in Conversation
October 17, 2026, 2:00 - 3:00 pm
Join a group of artists from What Quilts Carry: Eighteen Years of Quilting at KCAI for a conversation about the lasting influence of Quilts: More than the Sum of Their Parts, the Kansas City Art Institute studio course developed and taught by Kim Eichler-Messmer since 2008.
Beginning with the same traditional quilt sampler and carrying those experiences into distinctly different practices, the artists will reflect on the role quilting has played in their work, what has endured over time, and how a shared foundation continues to shape their making.
The discussion will be moderated by Kim Eichler-Messmer and followed by audience questions.
